Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of The Hula Binder, a platform for hula schools (hālau) operated by Haumea Technologies LLC, Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. By creating an account, registering with a hālau, or using the site, you agree to them.

The platform and your hālau

The Hula Binder provides the software; your hālau runs its school. Enrollment decisions, class content, tuition amounts, event details, refunds, and membership standing all belong to your hālau. Questions about any of those go to your kumu, not to us. Each hālau’s site serves that hālau only.

Accounts

You agree to provide accurate registration information and to keep your sign-in credentials to yourself. Accounts for minors are created and controlled by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for the account’s use. Your hālau’s teachers assign roles (student, assistant teacher, and so on) that determine what you can see and do; attempting to bypass those boundaries is a violation of these terms.

Payments

Tuition, fees, event tickets, and shop purchases are processed by Stripe. Depending on your hālau’s configuration, charges may be made by your hālau as the merchant of record. Amounts, due dates, and any waivers are set by your hālau; refunds are handled by your hālau, and we will assist with the records. Some events sell printed tickets in person only — those are informational on the site and involve no online payment.

Cultural content

Mele, oli, hula, and the teaching materials a hālau places on the platform are the hālau’s own — often carrying lineage and cultural responsibility beyond copyright. Content you can access as a member is for your own learning within that hālau. Do not copy, share, republish, or distribute a hālau’s content outside the platform without your kumu’s explicit permission. The platform never shares one hālau’s content with another.

Acceptable use

• No attempting to access another member’s or another hālau’s data.
• No harassment or abuse of other members through platform communications.
• No uploading unlawful content or content you have no right to share.
• No probing, scraping, or interfering with the service’s operation.

We may suspend accounts that violate these terms; a hālau may remove members from its own roster at any time under its own policies.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the platform reliable but provide it “as is,” without warranty of uninterrupted availability. Features may change as the platform develops. If these terms change materially, we will update the date above and communicate the change through the platform; continued use after a change is acceptance of it.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Haumea Technologies LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the platform, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts paid to us for the service in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
